VEIT Levels Foundation For Downtown Skating Rink This Winter

VEIT worked hard over the past two weeks helping put sand down for a level surface as the downtown skating rink was constructed in Loring Park.

Nestled into Loring Park this winter under the Downtown Minneapolis skyline, you’ll find a skating rink that will bring Minnesotans together to enjoy one of our long-standing outdoor winter traditions. When you take part in skating on the rink during Holidazzle and throughout the winter season, know that VEIT was part of the group that helped make the rink possible.

VEIT helped provide the foundation for the skating rink, bringing in trucks of sand that leveled the surface and prepared the space for the skating rink. The rink will be free and open to the public beginning Friday, November 27 at 5 p.m. during the opening of Holidazzle. It will run during posted hours throughout Holidazzle, then will continue to be available throughout the winter.

The skating rink itself is a collaborative effort by the Minneapolis Downtown Council, Minneapolis SafeZone Collaborative and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.

“This provided VEIT an opportunity to have a positive impact on Downtown Minneapolis in a way other than construction work,” VEIT President Greg Boelke said.

VEIT has been part of the Minnesota community for generations, and in pairing with Holidazzle the organization is able to take part in a family holiday tradition that has become a staple of Minneapolis winters here over the past two decades.

Founded in 1928, VEIT is one of the largest specialty contracting and waste management companies in the Upper Midwest. Their corporate offices are located in Rogers, Minn., with regional offices in Duluth, Rochester, Bismarck, N.D., and Milwaukee, Wis.

VEIT provides earthwork, demolition, underground utilities, deep foundations, commercial diving, dredging, roll-off dumpsters and industrial waste landfill services to general contractors, private industry and municipalities.

At Holidazzle, VEIT saw an opportunity to take part in an event and an ice rink initiative that represents the cornerstone of winter sports traditions, Boelke said.

“In many ways, Holidazzle has become the kick-off to the holiday season here in Minneapolis,” Boelke said. “Holidazzle is special because it helps bring back fond childhood holiday memories that many of us hold dear.”

Boelke said he hopes the skating rink will help provide a happy and cheerful holiday experience for all those who take part.

Join us for the Ceremonial Opening of Holidazzle on Friday, November 27 at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy music, fireworks, our tree lighting and more, and bring your skates to enjoy some time on the ice before or after the ceremony kicks off.
