In the Netherlands, there is specialty sweet treat that pairs perfectly with your morning coffee. The Stroopwafel, a pair of waffle cookies sandwiching a caramel layer, sits perfectly on top of a cup of coffee. As the heat rises from the cup, it warms the caramel and creates an oozing goodness you can only experience if you have a Stroopwafel in your possession.

Fortunately for you, they’re at Holidazzle this holiday season.

Stop by Holidazzle from Friday, November 27 through Sunday, December 20 on Thursdays through Sundays and take a package of Stroopwafels home. They’ll be available Thursdays and Fridays from 5-9 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am-9 pm.

“These delicious caramel waffle cookies are one of Holland’s true specialties,” said Annika Warkentien of Hart Haus, LLC, who is selling the Stroopwafels at Holidazzle with her husband, Kevin. “These Stroopwafels are made in the same manner as when they were first made in the 1800s. Made by splitting a thin vanilla and cinnamon waffle into two thin layers and sandwiching homemade caramel between the two halves. Stroopwafels are best served when warm so the caramel is soft—heat by putting it in the microwave for a few seconds or, as the Dutch traditionally do, by setting it over your mug of coffee in the morning and letting the steam from the hot beverage warm the caramel.”

The Warkentiens have good friends who travel to Holland frequently for business and have discovered the magic of the Stroopwafel in the morning. They fell in love with the product and decided to begin supplying them to local businesses here in the Minneapolis area.

They’re excited to share this product with the Holidazzle faithful here in Minneapolis over the holiday season.

“Both my husband and I have longstanding traditions of meeting up with friends and family at Holidazzle,” Annika said. “We are looking forward to carrying on that tradition in a new and unique way by being part of the Holidazzle event this year.”

They hope that Holidazzle goers will discover what the Dutch have known for hundreds of years—that the Stroopwafel is a wonderful complement to your morning coffee and a delicious treat to be enjoyed anytime.

And, paired with Holidazzle, the Stroopwafel is a way to have a tasty, sweet snack while enjoying the holidays with friends and family.

“For us, the holidays are about spending time with family,” Annika said. “Taking a step back to focus on the things that are truly important in life.”
