Like most Minnesotans, DeWayne and Deanna King appreciate all that the holiday season has to offer. After all, they’ve turned a passion of making toys and gifting them to loved ones into a family business.
“The idea for DK Wood Toys was organic,” DeWayne King said. “As I made more toys for family and friends, it was suggested that we start to sell them.”
DK Wood Toys has a wide range of toys, too. At Holidazzle this year, they’ll have cars, trucks, train sets, and many more original toys. DK Wood Toys will be at Holidazzle on November 23-25, November 29-December 2, December 6-9 and December 20-23. Holidazzle runs Thursdays through Sundays from Friday, November 23 through Sunday, December 23. It is open Thursdays from 5-9 pm, Fridays from 5-10 pm, Saturdays from 11 am-10 pm and Sundays from 11 am-7 pm.
“We love the atmosphere of being involved,” DeWayne said about Holidazzle. “Last year was such a positive experience, even though our first weekend was freezing. The people we met made the holiday season special.”
The Kings epitomize what Holidazzle is all about: Minnesotans making the holiday season special for those around them.
“In our family, we have a tradition the day after Thanksgiving to start using a set of Christmas dishes,” Deanna said. “Our sons tease me about it, but one year I didn’t use them and they told me it didn’t feel like the holidays. It’s the little things that everyone does to contribute to the feeling of family during the holiday season.”
DK Wood Toys employs just four people: DeWayne, Deanna, and their two sons, Donald and Doug. That family feel is evident in the care and detail they put into each individual toy they sell.
“We take pride in our work,” DeWayne said. “We produce a safe, quality toy that can become a family heirloom that can be passed on for generations.”
“We don’t consider this a traditional business,” Deanna said. “We’re doing this to make people’s lives a little better and help create memories.”
