Imagine a class project turning into a full-fledged company — that’s exactly what happened to Scott Ballard in spring 2016.
“Skyline Specs was started in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas,” Ballard said. “We’re completely student-owned and operated, and my mom helps out.”
It’s a simple, yet original and unique, concept: put the Twin Cities’ skylines on the side of sunglasses.
“I’m originally from Sartell, Minnesota,” Ballard said. “I was looking for an idea for a business that would create hometown pride that hadn’t been done before.”
Since their conception less than two years ago, Skyline Specs has grown in a number of ways. For instance, you can now buy a pair of sunglasses that features skylines from Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. On top of that, they’ve recently opened up a kiosk at the Mall of America.
Ballard is eager to bring Skyline Specs to Holidazzle this season.
“I’m excited to share my story,” he said. “We can’t wait to be a part of Minnesotans coming together for the holiday season.”
You can find Skyline Specs at Holidazzle from November 23-25, November 29-December 2, December 6-9 and December 20-23.
